Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a drum VST and a drum machine VST?
A drum VST usually plays recorded kits, often acoustic drums with grooves played by real drummers. A drum machine VST makes electronic drum sounds and patterns, in the style of hardware drum machines. Some products do both.
Do I need electronic drums to use a drum VST?
No. You can play it from a MIDI keyboard or pads, draw the notes in your DAW, or drag in ready-made grooves where the product includes them.
Will a drum VST work in my DAW?
Check the formats in the product's specifications. Most DAWs load VST3, Logic Pro uses Audio Unit and Pro Tools uses AAX. Recorded kits can be large, so check the disk space too.
