Piano VST

A piano VST plays recorded or modelled pianos and keyboards inside your DAW, such as grand pianos, electric pianos and vintage keys. Sampled pianos can be large, so each product lists the disk space it needs along with its formats and systems.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a sampled and a modelled piano VST?

A sampled piano plays back recordings of a real instrument, note by note and at many playing strengths, so it needs a lot of disk space. A modelled piano calculates the sound as you play, so it is much smaller.

Do I need a MIDI keyboard to play a piano VST?

You can draw notes in your DAW without one. To play the piano parts yourself, use a MIDI keyboard with velocity-sensitive keys; weighted keys feel closest to a real piano.

Will a piano VST work in my DAW?

Check the formats in the product's specifications. Most DAWs load VST3, Logic Pro uses Audio Unit and Pro Tools uses AAX.
