XLN Audio RC-20 Retro Color

RC-20 Retro Color is XLN Audio’s creative effect plug-in that recreates the warm character of vintage recording equipment with six effect modules. It is for producers who want vinyl noise, tape wobble, saturation and lo-fi grit on drums, keys, guitars, bass or full mixes. It runs as a 64-bit VST, AU or AAX plug-in on Windows 10 and 11 and macOS 10.13 or later.

What does RC-20 Retro Color do?

The RC-20 plugin adds the imperfections of old gear: noise, pitch wobble, saturation, reduced sample rates, reverb and volume drops. The six modules work together or on their own, and a single slider scales all of them at once, which is handy for intros, outros, drops and transitions.

The six effect modules

• Noise generator: vinyl noise, tape hiss, ambient studio noise, electric circuit hum, stompbox static and more
• Wobble and flutter: the pitch instability of vinyl players and tape machines
• Saturation and distortion: from mild saturation to fuzz, with many distortion types
• Degrader and bitcrusher: the limited sample rate and bit depth of vintage digital gear and old samplers
• Reverb: for depth and width
• Volume drops: the wear and volume loss of tape playback
