Zebra 3 is u-he’s modular software synthesizer, rebuilt from the ground up with virtual analogue, physical modelling and digital synthesis in an adaptive interface. It is for sound designers and producers who want to build sounds from scratch as well as play presets. It runs as a CLAP, VST3, AU or AAX plug-in on Windows 7 or newer and macOS 10.13 or newer, including Apple M1 or newer.

What is u-he Zebra 3?

Zebra 3 is the current version of u-he’s Zebra. Version 3.0.0 came out on 20 April 2026, and the current release is 3.0.2. Its interface adapts to your patch: modules only appear once you add them, and you arrange them by drag and drop.

  • A unified spline editor for oscillator waveforms and MSEG curves, with geometric morphing
  • Two oscillator engines: wavetable (up to 16x unison) or additive (more than 1,000 partials, which can be inharmonic)
  • 20 oscillator effects, including spectral decay, sync and phase remapping
  • Filters with over 10 models, such as Ladder, Cascade and SVF, and over 100 filter responses in total
  • FM oscillators, plus modal resonators, comb filters, noise and exciter modules for physical modelling
  • Vector and Scan mixers to blend four sources with an XY pad or scan through them
  • 4 envelopes, 4 LFOs and 4 MSEGs, plus Mod Math and Mappers
  • A global FX grid with chorus, flanger, phaser, delays, reverbs, compressors, EQs and distortion
  • MPE, microtuning and MTS-ESP support

Zebra 2 vs Zebra 3

Zebra 3 replaces Zebra2 as u-he’s current Zebra. u-he still sells Zebra2 and ZebraHZ separately as Zebra Legacy, which is also part of the u-he Everything Bundle. Zebra 3 needs a newer macOS (10.13) and a larger display than the other u-he synths.
