Kontakt 7 is the previous major version of Native Instruments’ sampler and virtual instrument platform, with a new browser and Factory Library 2. It suits Mac users on macOS 12 or 13, which Kontakt 8 no longer supports, and anyone who wants to stay on Kontakt 7. It runs as a VST3, AU or AAX plugin on Windows 10 or 11 and macOS 12, 13 or 14.
What is Kontakt 7?
Kontakt 7 plays Kontakt instruments, and its new browser lets you search, filter and audition individual sounds. This page is for the full Kontakt 7 application, not the free Kontakt Player.
Native Instruments’ Kontakt 7 page now redirects to Kontakt 8, the current version. For the newest tools, see Kontakt 8.

Kontakt 7 vs Kontakt 8
Kontakt 8 adds Tools, Leap, Conflux, Traktor and new amp and stomp effects, nearly 30 stereo outputs by default, up to 64 external modulators per group, faster loading and wider high-DPI support. It needs macOS 14 or later, while Kontakt 7 supports macOS 12 to 14.
Kontakt 8 installs as a separate application, so you can keep Kontakt 7 and use both in the same project.
